Audience feedback
Alex: I like the front cover as it is looking very attractive, especially the masthead which is standing out. The main picture looks bright and interesting. The whole layout looks professional, and probably will attract my attention in a shop. The price suits the number of pages in the magazine, low price but big amount of pages. Also I like the DPS as the text is written very clearly and interesting. Also some of questions are funny. I think the contents page has a nice layout but the choosen picture could be improved by making it brighter.
Alonso: The front cover really stands out and would attract my attention on the shelf of a shop. The masthead is large and has nice colours. The idea with a bonus zone is very clever way to attract more audience as no one knows what is on this page, so they will be interested in reading the magazine. I don't really like the contents page as the picture looks very dark, but the rest is nice. The DPS has a good layout which doesn't look very busy and it is easy to read the interview.
Sam: Well, the cover is looking professional but I don't like choosen colours. The cover lines on the contents page show clearly the idea of the articles. The interview is interesting but should include more information about Tommy. Overall, I like all pages.

Treatment
The magazine: The sound
Target Readership:The sound is a new magazine aimed at male and female young adults around 16-26 years old who really like listening hip-hop and rap music. But also younger aged groups will be intrested in reading my magazine as it contains useful information for everyone like top 50 songs of 2011. But older people may not like The sound as it contains specific pictures and texts which represent modern music and some of parents may find it not intresting. There is something intresting for every sex. For male, examples of singers as role models. And for female different interviews and texts. My magazine specialised on music so every article is about it. As well it contains a little bit about fashion as readers can see singers clothing and use it as an example. My magazine has a strong sense of modern music and this is why I decided to make a list of top 50 songs of 2011.
Form and Style:The sound is an A4 full colour magazine which contains interviews, reviews, news about music and as the main article top 50 songs of 2011. The model for a cover page will be a male 17-18 years old who is a new coming up singer. Colourful colours as yellow and red will attract more audiences. Each issue will feature a new coming up singer on the front cover. My magazine is specialized in a genre of hip-hop so the main page and contains will be designed in this specific style to make The sound outstanding. The masthead must be recognizable and colourful. The price will be between £2.60-£3.00 which is normal for a magazine which has around 80-100 pages in every issue.
Themes and Typical features:The sound is specialized on singers who just become famous, kind of advertising them as well an issue contains some articles about already famous singers as Skepta, Dappy and etc. Also it will include interviews, reviews, different charts and top 50. The language used in a magazine will be informal and simple as possible, so teenagers can understand the articles easily and find it intresting.
Potential advertisers:A lot of brands will be advertised in every issue which are specialized on music mostly. For example: Beats, Ecko, etc.
Editorial team:The editorial team will be made up of experienced writers and designers. The team must be made up of male, female and different aged groups so they can bring new ideas.

Internet research
From my research I have found out that mostly audience for music magazines are young people both sex around 16-25, which I am targeting for my own magazine. I have made a little questionnaire for my classmates and the results show that 80% can't live without music. It is an important part of their lifes, it helps them to relax, control their stress or just enjoy it.
Modern technology changed our life a lot. Even to find more about music people use internet more often instead of bying music magazines. But still they are a lot of people who prefer to read magazines. Let's think why people don't like reading magazines. Some of them are expensive around £3.00 and people don't want to pay that much. But from answers that show that they buy them I made little analyze.
Which music magazine are you buying the most?
- NME (29%)
- Kerrang (18%)
- Q (11%)
- Rolling Stones (14%)
- Metal Hammer (7%)
- Others (21%)

2 DPS
The double page was taken from the music magazine called Metal Hammer, which specifies on rock and metal genre. Layout of the page tells that the articles are aimed at metal fans and everything is designed in rock style; font styles, pictures from concerts. Along the bottom are four more images, one in the middle and one on the top of the page. The main picture takes almost 80% of the page, leaving less place for actual text.
The second double page features the band "Traffic". The majority of the double page spread being taken up by a low-angle, long shot. The title links with a photo very good because the title says "Getting together in the country" and the picture shows a band standing somewhere in a nature. The colour scheme of the double page spread also compliments the nature element running throughout the double page spread. The colours are very neautral such as cream, brown and green. These are all the colours you would find in a countryside landscape and therefore compliment the idea of the double page spread well. Also the pictures covers over 70% of available place, leaving less place for text. The band "Traffic" is dressed in hippies clothing, suiting the design of the page.
1 DPS
- Colourful colours (presentation of metal music)
- A lot of pictures
2 DPS
- More relaxed colours (hippies style)
- Clearly shown photo
Also they have some similar staff like a main photo takes around 75% of pages, little texts, the main idea is to show photos

2 contents pages
This is an example of a contents page from a magazine Blender. As we can see the page looks very simple with one long shot picture showing Katy Perry and little text. Mainly audiences are teenagers and young adults which doesn't like to source for lots of information from contents page, just checking main titles, so editors decided to write little titles with less information. Katy looks very small comparing to a mushroom, which makes the photo looks nice and intresting. Colours presented on the page are white, red, pink and blue. In the top right corner there is a date of printing the magazine. Attraction in the magazine is Katy Perry which is a role model for many women and her dress looks sexy for men.
The contents page of NME magazine looks different to Blender one. It looks very busy as there are more pictures and lots of texts, covering main titles and information. Magazine mostly focused on Indie music which features music news, reviews, interviews and etc. Two large photos draw the reader to read the main headline which is highlighted with bigger font. Both pictures have been taken for low angles and probably from seats next to stages. As I already said the page looks busy with texts standing next to each other. The colour scheme; black, pink and white. The audience are both sex 16-26. The subheadings are also quite bold which makes it easy for readers to find what they are looking for without reading all texts. Also the magazine gives a discount for subscribing.
I have analyzed two contents pages of different magazines. They are similar in two ways they both are about music and the range of audience are men and women 16 to 26.
The differences are the amounts of staff represented on pages. The first contents page with Kety Perry is very simple; only one long shot photo of the pop star and the amount of texts is very small. But the second one looks very busy with a lot of texts and different photos.
